Welcome to house of rubber, an Amsterdam-based multidisciplinary studio that values playful optimism and creative fun over formality and minimalism. Founded by Marlou Breuls, the studio’s love for experimentation, material exploration and craftsmanship translates into highly material-driven works of art that push functionality, tactility, softness, and otherworldly textures to the forefront.
Located between the realms of fashion and sculpture, our goal is to challenge the traditional perception of these disciplines and blur their distinctive characteristics into one another. We create our own wondrous universe where rules are allowed to be broken, bended, or abandoned. Our open-minded and intuitive design process is characterized by playful serendipity, material-driven research, and happy accidents, allowing each work to gradually take shape.
house of rubber produces everything, from ballgown rugs, ceramic dressoirs and otherworldly latex bodysuits to wobbly floor lamps and rubbery jewelry that droops from the wearer’s ears. With our surprising range of work, we invite the audience to be amused, surprised, and welcomed in investigating every aspect of design.
